Massage can be a powerful tool for managing stress, rehabbing injuries, increasing range of motion, addressing inefficient postural patterns, and building a mind-body connection that can help you move better in all aspects of your life. It’s a time to focus on listening to what your body needs.
If you want to learn more about the physiological and mental benefits of massage please ask! I’m happy to talk about the absolutely incredible things our body does for us everyday and how massage can support that.

Please review the studio policies and fill out the intake form and email it back to me.
Before your first session please arrive 10-15 minutes early to allow for a discussion about your health history and goals for massage.
Then you will have some time to undress in the privacy of the studio. Please undress to your level of comfort.
During the massage try to be loose, breathe, and focus on the sensations of the massage. Some techniques may require you to move or provide feedback, I will let you know when those come up. Please let me know if you need any adjustments to pressure, music, temperature, or if you need anything during the session. It’s your time, and I want you to get the most out of your session.
I strive to end promptly at the end of your session so that you can get to whatever is next in your day on time.
Please drink plenty of water after your session. Massage increases local circulation which moves stagnant metabolic waste out of muscle tissue. Help it along by staying hydrated. After any deep work, avoid strenuous activity for at least 24 hours.

It’s a common misconception that massage has to hurt to be effective. This is far from true. Massage pressure can range from very light to very firm depending on the client’s preferences, sensitivity to pressure, and goals for the session.
For relaxation and nervous system regulation light to medium pressure is great.
Deep tissue typically uses a firmer level of pressure to penetrate deeper into the muscles. The sensation may at times be uncomfortable and approach the client’s pain threshold. These sessions can serve a number of goals, but are not typically considered massages for relaxation.
Pressure perception is different for everyone, can be different for different areas of the body, and even change from session to session. We will work together to find what’s right for your body on the given day.

Falling asleep during a session is completely normal. If you think you may fall asleep and want to be woken up if you do, please let me know. Otherwise I will let you sleep and continue the massage. The work is still effective even if you are asleep. I will not perform any deep tissue work if you are asleep.

Cupping is an ancient bodywork technique. Historically, the types of cups and its purposes varied from modality to modality. Today, cupping is used in massage therapy clinics, physical therapy offices, and at home to mobilize and warm up soft tissue, stimulate local blood flow, and break up adhesed tissue by lifting structures away from the bone. Modern cups are typically made of silicone, plastic or glass. In my practice, I use a gliding cup technique where cups are constantly moved or glided over tissue in conjunction with deep tissue techniques.
Cupping may leave marks that last a few days. The marks or lack of them is not an indicator of how effective the cupping treatment was. If you have cupping marks that don’t fade after 2-3 days, please let me know and we will adjust for your next session.

Please undress to your comfort level, this often means fully undressed or with just underwear on. During the massage, you will be covered by a sheet and a blanket. I will undrape only the area of your body I am working on, and recover it before moving on to the next area.
You are welcome to wear as much clothing as is comfortable for you. Many styles of massage are performed clothed, and I can adjust my style to meet your clothing preferences.
Please remove jewelry before the massage. Any jewelry that you can’t remove (face piercings, wedding rings) I will work around.
If there is any part of your body that you don’t want worked on, please let me know.
If you have any further questions about clothing, please feel free to reach out.

If you are feeling sick before your appointment, please do not come in. Aside from the potential of spreading illness, your immune system is working hard to get you back on your feet. Massage can exacerbate your symptoms by overloading your immune system. There is no penalty for rescheduling due to illness. Please call me or send me an email as soon as you start to feel symptoms and we can reschedule.
For cancellations not due to illness, please refer to my policies page.
Additionally, if you just received a vaccine, please wait 72 hours at least before coming in for a massage.
You are welcome to wear a mask during the massage. I will wear a mask upon request.
